Eurovo chooses On.Plant software to optimise transport

Onit's TMS proved to be the perfect solution to simplify the complex transport operations of the leading egg industry group.

Eurovo chooses On.Plant software to optimise transport

The company

Egg professionals since 1950

Eurovo is one of Europe's leading producers of eggs and egg products. Founded in the 1950s by Rainieri Lionello as a mobile food vendor, the company has grown and evolved to become a leading multinational group in the sector, with 17 factories in Italy and around the world.

Eurovo's strengths lie in technological innovation, sustainable production processes, product quality and traceability. These factors, combined with its widespread presence in Europe and (still family-based) governance, make Eurovo a leader in its sector.

Customer needs

Reducing software and skills fragmentation

With 17 plants, 11 warehouses and over 5,000 customers served worldwide, optimised transport management is one of Eurovo's most important strategic activities. However, in the absence of dedicated software, journeys were planned using the company's management system, and all related requirements not covered by the management system were handled using a constellation of ad hoc software created on different tools, without a support service that could respond in the event of problems and with knowledge of these tools scattered among different individuals.

The main requirement was therefore to adopt vertical software for transport management in order to simplify activities and resolve all existing issues.

The solution

On.Plant/TMS: a single software package for all transport needs

The main challenge was to functionally unify many operations that were previously covered by numerous ad hoc tools. This challenge was overcome thanks to the application of On.Plant/TMS software: an Onit Operations tool dedicated to transport planning and optimisation.

Another challenging factor was the need to involve a large number of people dedicated to different areas, shuttles, pick-ups, types of goods and farms, a situation that required a long and meticulous testing phase during the adaptation of the software in order to manage this complexity flawlessly.

During the analysis, it also became clear that On.Plant/TMS needed to be customised by implementing a series of additional features, such as order grid customisation and co-loading management (situations in which a vehicle takes part of a load to one warehouse and part to another) and the creation of the ‘external orders’ entity, which is essential for managing split orders on different routes.

Results achieved

The advantages brought by On.Plant/TMS to Eurovo's transport operations

On.Plant/TMS is... the egg of Columbus! Thanks to On.Plant/TMS, Eurovo now manages the planning of deliveries and shuttle services between the group's 11 warehouses in a simple and practical way, for a total of around 1,000 deliveries per day divided into a hundred trips.

This has made it possible to reduce costs by optimising loads and routes, simplify the work of shipping staff and reduce the time spent on trip planning.

A series of advantages that convinced Eurovo to equip itself with additional On.Plant/TMS features. In the next phase of the project, modules for transport cost control, packaging and feed delivery planning, and delivery tracking will also be implemented.
