Customer Needs
Beghelli group managed its warehouse stock using an application that was no longer performing well and was based on outdated technology.
With the increase in intergroup operational flows and the management's need for cross-sectional visibility of movements between the various holding companies, the application they had further demonstrated its inadequacy.
It therefore became necessary for Beghelli to adopt software that was more complete, functional and user-friendly than the previous application solution, to bring the plants to a higher level of efficiency and productivity.
On.Plant Solution
The versatility and streamlined nature of On.Plant in its vertical WMS (warehouse management) and MES (production management) software, the intuitive English-language interface and the expertise of Onit's dedicated project team were the factors that most influenced Beghelli's choice of technology partner.
The pilot project was carried out at the end of 2021 and involved the installation of On.Plant/WMS in the new Beghelli Elplast logistics hub, based in Brno, Czech Republic.
Beghelli group had no visibility of the plant's operating methods, which is why the analysis phase proved particularly important, both for Onit and Beghelli, to understand how to rationalise the group's processes.
The main obstacle to the implementation of the project was the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic, a situation that slowed down the work but still allowed the project to be successfully completed in the following period.
Beghelli's satisfaction at the end of the pilot project immediately led to action being taken at the Italian plants of Elettronica Cimone and Beghelli SpA. The whole of 2023 will be used to bring the On.Plant suite to Elettronica Cimone, while 2024 will see the Monteveglio headquarters take centre stage in the project.
In this case, the project, which includes various goods entry and exit flows, together with intercompany and intracompany handling and shuttle flows, proved challenging due to the complexity and quantity of lines to be managed.
Taking into account only the Beghelli SpA plants, at the end of the project there were:
- 12 different goods entry lines (7 for Monteveglio, 5 for Savigno);
- 11 different goods exit lines (7 for Monteveglio, 4 for Savigno);
- 25 production lines for the manual department and 7 lines for the automatic;
- 4.0 integration with robots
- 130 users.
Advantages
Onit's consultancy allowed Beghelli to make important choices to improve logistics flows, which were then served by On.Plant/WMS and On.Plant/MES.
The applications have simplified and speeded up line management and, looking at the numbers, they were immediately used successfully and with extreme ease. One month after go-live, in fact, there was massive use of the Onit application, with the creation of approximately 28,000 loading units in just 30 days, together with the use of all configured flows.
Thanks to the work carried out on the software, Beghelli can now count on full visibility of cross-company and cross-plant movements, which was the group's main requirement.
