Vignali: integrated logistics that never stops
Vignali has digitized its transport and logistics management by adopting the On.Plant suite. The system has improved planning, process control, and operational efficiency, reducing manual tasks and errors.
Vignali: integrated logistics that nevers stops
Vignali Logistic Service Provider is a transport and integrated logistics company based in Bertinoro (FC). Founded in 2006, the company has grown rapidly to become a benchmark in the management of transport, warehousing and cross-docking operations, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Today, Vignali manages a fleet of over 250 vehicles and more than 30,000 m² of warehouses, of which 20,000 m² are refrigerated with temperatures ranging from −20 °C to +4 °C. The facility is capable of handling thousands of pallets per day and mainly serves companies in the perishable food sector, large-scale distribution and fruit and vegetable markets, contexts in which punctuality, traceability and efficiency are critical success factors.
In 2010, Vignali began operations in Perpignan, within the large Saint Charles fruit and vegetable market. In May 2019, it purchased a facility of approximately 2,500 m², of which 2,000 m² are used for handling. This site operates as a logistics platform for managing flows to Italy, Spain and North Africa.

Customer requirements
Grow while maintaining control
The highly customised management system previously used was no longer able to support the needs of a constantly evolving company such as Vignali. The lack of visibility on processes and the presence of workflows that were still partly manual risked becoming a limitation to competitiveness and the ability to seize new development opportunities.
As Vignali itself pointed out, it had become essential to equip itself with tools capable of offering a complete and integrated view of its operational activities, allowing it to measure performance and identify areas for improvement in terms of time and costs, which are increasingly strategic in the logistics sector today.
In addition to technology, Vignali was also looking for a partner capable of understanding the specific operational characteristics of a complex logistics service provider, active on several fronts and with strong seasonal peaks.
Proposed solution
On.Plant: a single platform to manage complexity
The project involved the adoption of Onit's On.Plant suite, with the aim of digitising and integrating transport and logistics processes.
In particular, On.Plant/WMS was activated on the Perpignan platform to manage warehouse operations, allowing the tracking of goods entering and leaving the warehouse and the automatic generation of the necessary transport documentation, such as CMRs. Today, in Bertinoro, On.Plant/WMS is used to manage warehouse activities.
However, the heart of the project was the introduction of On.Plant/TMS, which was gradually activated through its main modules: from map-based trip planning to active certification and pre-invoice generation, from pallet exchange accounting to the Order Portal and Document Portal.
Map-based planning represented a paradigm shift for the logistics office, providing planners with an intuitive and reliable tool based on up-to-date and easily accessible data. The Order Portal also allowed Vignali's customers to enter orders directly into the system, replacing traditional channels such as telephone and email and drastically reducing manual tasks and data entry errors.
The system has also proven particularly effective during periods of peak operational load: during summer peaks, Vignali handles an average of around 1,400 orders per day, which on the busiest days translates into over 4,000 pallets handled daily.
Benefits achieved
Measurable efficiency and more informed decisions
The adoption of On.Plant/TMS has enabled Vignali to optimise journey planning, improving the management of loading, unloading and itineraries thanks to a map view updated in real time. This has led to a reduction in planning times and better optimisation of routes and driving hours.
The complete digitisation of transport processes, from order entry to active and passive pre-invoicing, including pallet management, has eliminated most manual and paper-based activities, increasing operational efficiency and reducing the margin for error. All information is now available in an integrated manner throughout the entire supply chain, improving coordination between the various functions involved.
A further key benefit is the availability of structured data on journeys, customers, carriers, kilometres travelled, empty kilometres and quantities transported. Thanks to the cost/revenue analysis module, Vignali is able to accurately calculate the margin for each individual route, supporting more informed strategic decisions with a view to profitability.
