ÈCOSÌ chooses Onit to digitise production, warehousing and transport

TMS, MES and WMS were the three On.Plant software programmes that improved the operational flow from raw material storage to finished product shipment.

ÈCOSÌ, cleaning products that respect the environment

 Logo di èCosì

ÈCOSÌ was founded in Forlì in 2000 and specialises in the production of professional detergents and disinfectants, becoming the Italian leader in the professional cleaning sector.

Its strength lies in its innovative hygiene and disinfection systems, developed with respect for the environment and people.

The head office is still in Forlì, with branches in Budapest, Trento, and Lodi.

Requirement

Optimise, digitise, simplify

ÈCOSÌ's main requirement was to optimise warehouse space and goods handling. In addition, it needed to equip itself with factory software that would enable it to comprehensively cover logistics and production processes, filling the gaps in the ERP management software it was using.

The critical points of ÈCOSÌ's logistics were:

  • goods storage processes without defined logic
  • errors during picking due to the fact that warehouse operators mainly followed manual flows not guided by software
  • completely paper-based management of production processes and lack of a real traceability process
  • shipment planning managed entirely on paper

The solution

The power of On.Plant developed in four phases

On.Plant's TMS, MES and WMS modules, suitably integrated with each other, immediately appeared to be the ideal solution for digitising and optimising the entire supply chain, from production to distribution.

The project was divided into four main phases:

Phase 1

The WMS warehouse management module was activated by configuring the sales flow to guide warehouse picking via software, allowing operators to work from terminals and generate parcel labels for shipping. The main challenge was integration with the ERP, once this was overcome, operators adopted a digital picking system instead of the paper-based one. The involvement of key users facilitated the transition.

Phase 2

The MES is used to import production plans from the management system and manage the processing of semi-finished and finished products. Operators work from tablets at their workstations, recording the quantities obtained/consumed.

Phase 3

ÈCOSÌ uses the journey composition module, integrated with the WMS, to plan transport with its own vehicles and external couriers: on average, 12 journeys per week are managed with the internal fleet and 5 are entrusted to couriers. The route optimisation feature with map display is also active.

Phase 4

With the POD (Proof of Delivery) module, integrated into the TMS, the company monitors internal shipments in real time, from loading to completion of the journey. Drivers manage deliveries via smartphone, recording results and non-conformities. For external couriers, the system certifies shipments and automatically calculates transport costs based on the characteristics of the goods.

Results

The advantages brought by On.Plant: digitised operations and ‘cleaned up’ critical issues

The extensive implementation of the On.Plant suite enabled end-to-end digitisation of all the customer's main operational flows.

The integrations between WMS and MES and between WMS and TMS were central, as they enabled the activation of collaborative processes between all the offices involved, supported by a single IT platform.

ÈCOSÌ was also able to record a significant increase in the quality of operational flows, thanks to:

  • Reduction of errors in warehouse picking
  • Increased visibility of actual product availability in the warehouse (actual or forecast)
  • Reduction in travel planning time and costs, thanks to software support
  • Ability to monitor all stages of the logistics and production processes, ensuring accurate control
